What does Durkin mean?
Well, Durkin is an Irish last name. It comes from Durka in the Greek it means “pessimist” (A tendency to stress the negative or unfavorable or to take the gloomiest possible view). However, if your first or last name is Durkin, there’s no need to worry (no pun intended).
Shakespeare would say “what’s in a name…” I say, make of it what you want and move on. If we allow the sins of the past (others and our own) to decide our future, how then can we make strides to move forward in life? My first name means “gift from God” but my second name means “pessimist.” So I’m a gift from God who lacks faith? …actually that’s somewhat accurate, at least the 2nd part 😉
Honestly though, the problem is I’m not the only one in the world with this name. I met others who have my first and last name and they are nothing like me. What does this prove? That no matter how much we argue predestination vs free will, we are still in control of our lives. Trust God with matters of life that you can’t control, but don’t stop taking responsibility for your life, no matter how hard it may be. Over time, you will learn to trust God with what is in your control and that’s when your name will soon be honored among those who are currently living instead of opinions made by those from the past.
